The cruise vessel “Vasco da Gama” at Lisnave

The cruise vessel “Vasco da Gama”, owned by the Portuguese company MysticInvest Holding, was recently drydocked at Lisnave shipyard for a major upgrade project, including the interior refurbishment to the highest standards and a big step on the most stringent international rules, including environmental and energy increased performances and digitalization, making this project a fantastic Circular Economy example applied to the shipping industry.
Five SCR (Selective Catalytic Reactor) systems were installed (one for each engine) to reach emissions levels well below Tier III and therefore ensuring exhaust gas emissions treatment in any of her operation modes. This ambitious project, designed by TecnoVeritas – Services of Engineering and Systems Technology, jointly engineered by TecnoVeritas and Lisnave and manufactured and installed by Lisnave, was a big challenge, technical and time wise. In only one month the vessel revamping design was developed, and in less than two months it was implemented onboard. Extensive fluid flow simulations were carried out by TecnoVeritas’ engineering team to define the optimised solutions to implement and the installation was done in a record time thanks to a highly engaged engineering team from TecnoVeritas and Lisnave, quality management from Mystic Cruises, TecnoVeritas and Lisnave and very experienced manpower from the Shipyard.
Another challenging project was the installation of a new sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 650 m3/day, approved for Baltic Sea operation and compliant with MEPC.227(65), including Section 4.2 nitrogen and phosphorus removal standard.
Mr. Mário Ferreira, the chairman of Mystic Invest group, is the businessman that made it all possible and the beautiful passenger ship “Vasco da Gama” is now shiny and modernized, comfortably complying with Tier III limits and therefore allowing the vessel to visit the most demanding touristic destinations, like the Heritage Fjords of Norway. The cruising operations are held by nicko cruises Schiffsreisen GmbH.
