Lisnave’s origin dates back to January 1, 1937, when the CUF Group took over the concession of the Rocha Shiprepair Yard concession situated on the north bank of the Tagus estuary in Lisbon.

Later in September 1961 the company adopted the name Lisnave – Estaleiros Navais de Lisboa and the company expanded on the South bank of the Tagus where the new Margueira yard was built, with facilities to accommodate the largest vessels being built.

In 1973 Setenave Estaleiros Navais de Setúbal was created and a new shipbuilding and shiprepair Yard was built at Mitrena in Setúbal to cope with increased demand, both for ship repairing and shipbuilding.

Resulting from the needed rationalisation of the European shiprepair industry, in mid-1997 a restructuring plan was implemented to meet the forecast shiprepair and conversion needs for the incoming 21st Century.

The restructuring plan was completed in the end of the year 2000, following the closing of the margueira Yard and the general upgrading of the existing Yard and the construction of 3 additional Panamax size Drydocks (the Hydrolift).

All activities are since then concentrated in Mitrena.
